CE Marking for Gas Appliances: Regulation (EU) 2016/426 (GAR)

Regulation (EU) 2016/426 (GAR)

Gas-fired appliances placed on the European market must comply with the safety and performance requirements defined in Regulation (EU) 2016/426 on appliances burning gaseous fuels (GAR).

Products that meet these requirements must bear the CE marking, demonstrating that they comply with the applicable European legislation and provide a high level of protection for the health and safety of users, domestic animals, and property. The CE marking also confirms that the product meets requirements related to the efficient and rational use of energy.

The previous Gas Appliances Directive 2009/142/EC was replaced by Regulation (EU) 2016/426, which became fully applicable on 21 April 2018.

Before affixing the CE marking, manufacturers or their authorized representatives in the European Union must ensure that their products comply with the essential safety requirements defined in the regulation. This process requires testing, technical evaluation, and certification procedures, typically involving a Notified Body.
